Protecting your privacy is important to the Canadian Journal of Neurological Science (“CJNS”). This Policy explains how CJNS uses and discloses the personal information collected from and provided by you while using CJNS’s Main Site (as defined in the CJNS Website Use Policy). Any personal information collected or provided to us through the Main Site will be treated with care, and subject to this Policy, will not be used or disclosed in ways to which you have not consented.

By using the Main Site, you signify your consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with this Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, you may not use the Main Site.

Information Automatically Collected

Like many other web sites, the Main Site automatically collects certain non-identifiable information regarding Main Site users, such as the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your computer, the date and time you access the Main Site, your operating system, the sections of the Main Site you visit, and the materials you post to or download from the Main Site. This non-identifiable information is used for Main Site administration and improvement. Your non-identifiable information may be disclosed to others and permanently archived for future use.

The Main Site may use “cookies”, a technology that saves information to your computer to permit the Main Site to recognize your future visits. Cookies enhance the convenience and use of the Main Site. You may choose to decline cookies if your browser permits although they may be required to enter the CJNS Member Site (as defined in the CJNS Website Use Policy).

Personal Information You Specifically Provide

During your use of the Main Site, you may decide to voluntarily provide personal information such as your name, email address, postal address, and telephone number when asked for purposes such as communicating with CJNS.

CJNS may use your personal information to contact and correspond with you, to respond to your inquiries, and as otherwise permitted by law. If you provide your email address, CJNS may send to you, from time to time, email containing information about CJNS and other matters it believes will interest you.

Disclosure of Your Personal Information

CJNS must cooperate fully should a situation arise where CJNS is required by law or a legal authority to release your personal information.

CJNS takes reasonable precautions to avoid the unauthorized disclosure of your personal information. Nevertheless, due to the nature of the Internet, security and privacy risks cannot be eliminated, therefore, CJNS cannot guarantee that your personal information will not be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this Policy.

You may request access to your personal information and information about CJNS’s collection, use and disclosure of that information by contacting CJNS at privacy@CJNS.org. Subject to certain legal exceptions, you will be given reasonable access to your personal information, and you will be entitled to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and to have it amended as appropriate.

Tracking Information

CJNS may use and share with our partners non-personal statistical or demographic information which cannot be connected to the identities or other personal information of individual users for research purposes.

Other Matters

The Main Site may contain links to other websites which collect information about you voluntarily or through cookies. CJNS has no responsibility or liability for or control over those other websites.

If you stop using the Main Site or your permission to use the Main Site is terminated by CJNS, CJNS may continue to use and disclose your personal information in accordance with this Policy as amended from time to time.

This Policy may be changed by CJNS from time to time in CJNS’s sole discretion and without any prior notice or liability to you or any other person. New versions of this Policy will be posted here and you should check for Policy updates.
