Figure: The Neuropathy Impairment Score (NIS) of 11 patients with nondiabetic lumbosacral radiculoplexus neuropathy (LSRPN) plotted with time after a course of intravenous methylprednisolone therapy. Each line represents a different patient, the dots represent patient evaluations, and the solid lines represent the treatment period. Without exception the NIS improved (score decreased) during the treatment period, sometimes dramatically. In text, we provide the reasons why we think that this improvement in the NIS reflects efficacy of the therapy used, but we advise caution in over-interpreting these results because it is an open trial and bias could have influenced results and improvement can occur spontaneously. |
